It’s a new year!
And while for many people it means a new beginning, for those of us in student affairs, it’s the winter term, or in other words: 2/2
That said, each campus has a beat and the 2nd term, while lacking the frantic energy of the 1st term is much more productive. Student Affairs professionals are hitting their stride and student leaders are hitting their goals.
Still, it is at this point that conference planning is underway and there are three to take note of.
1) CACUSS 2011 – At the Heart of Diversity : The annual conference for Canadian student affairs professionals is taking place at Ryerson June 19 -22. This is, in many ways, a coming of age for a university with real momentum. Registration is not yet open but if you are thinking of presenting, the deadline of January 17th is soon.
2) 2011 NASPA – Educating for Lives of Purpose: I was quite fortunate to attend last year’s NASPA conference and its scale is both impressive and alienating. Still, if you are looking to get a grand sense of what is happening in our field, emerging trends and graduate placements – this is it.
3) PSEWeb 2011 - May 18 -20: A relativeley new conference (the first one was held last year at Brock) PSEweb highlights the best in social media, new technology and marketing for post secondary. It is a neat mix of staff from communications, recruitment, student affairs and more. Community + communications. Neat.
