Ah, summer is near and student affairs professionals are looking forward to the warmer weather and (hopefully) calmer campus environment. Speaking of which, do you have any plans from June 20 – 23? You may want to check out Edmonton and join hundreds of your colleagues at CACUSS’s annual conference: Shine 2010.
The conference committee has clearly been hard at work putting together a great package.
Some highlights so far:
- Opening Keynote. Dr. Susan Komives is a well known leader/guru/legend in the student services field having contributed to numerous landmark books along with a record of distinguished professional service . She was at NASPA as one of their legends and I think her choice to be a keynote is an inspired choice for the committee.
- *New* SOLmate Program. Think of it as a buddy system to help integrate new and relatively new conference goers to more experienced members. In addition to the tried-and-true CACUSS 101 session, this will help new members have a much more successful experience and newish members should sign up.
- Create Your Own Conference. Have you ever gone to a conference with a particular subject in mind but realized by the end of it that you simply didn’t get to cover it with your colleagues? The CYOC is a way to address that by democratizing the conference planning by inviting attendees to take an active role in identifying an specific subject to discuss with others in an organized fashion. Neat!
- And of course, Edmonton is a highlight in its own right…
Are you planning on going to the conference? Are you looking forward to anything in particular?
